Grace That Teaches Us
... Is your understanding of God’s grace producing greater obedience, self-control, and gratitude toward Christ?
Titus 2:11 (NIV) ⓘ ↗For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.
Devotion:
Today’s Scripture reminds us that the Christian life begins and continues by the grace of God.
Grace is often understood simply as God’s undeserved favor toward sinners, and rightly so. We cannot earn salvation through good works, religious effort, or personal righteousness. God saves us because He is gracious, and salvation is received through faith in Jesus Christ.
But in Titus 2 ↗, Paul explains that grace does more than bring salvation. Grace also teaches us how to live. The same grace that brings us to Christ begins changing the way we think, speak, and conduct ourselves. It teaches us to turn away from ungodliness and to live with self-control, righteousness, and devotion to God.
This means obedience is not an attempt to earn God’s acceptance. It is the proper response of someone who has already received His mercy. When we understand what Christ has done for us, our hearts should increasingly desire what pleases Him.
Jesus gave Himself to redeem us from sin and to make us His own. His blood paid the price we could never pay. Therefore, Christian living is not merely a matter of following rules. It is the life of a redeemed person learning to walk according to the truth of God’s Word.
Sound doctrine and godly living belong together. What we believe about God should shape how we live before Him. Grace never gives us permission to remain comfortable with sin. Instead, grace patiently trains us to belong more fully to Christ in our daily conduct.
Consider today whether your understanding of God’s grace is producing greater obedience, self-control, and gratitude toward Christ.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the grace You have shown me through Jesus Christ. Teach me to turn from sin and to live in a way that reflects Your truth and honors my Redeemer. Amen.
