... God’s delays are never wasted when they are directed by His sovereign hand.
Romans 8:28 NKJV (devotion translation)
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Devotion:
Today’s Scripture reminds us that God often accomplishes His purposes through paths we would never choose for ourselves.
When Paul remained imprisoned for years, it may have appeared that his ministry had been interrupted. Yet the Lord had already assured him that he would one day testify in Rome. Between that promise and its fulfillment were delays, false accusations, trials, and hardship. None of these events were outside God’s sovereign care. Each one became an opportunity for Paul to bear witness to Christ before rulers and influential leaders who otherwise may never have heard the gospel.
God’s plans are often different from our expectations. We naturally desire the shortest path to the destination, but the Lord is concerned with far more than our arrival. He is accomplishing His purposes in us and through us along the way. The unexpected interruptions, difficult seasons, and changes in direction may become the very places where His grace is displayed and His truth is proclaimed.
Like Paul, every believer has a testimony of God’s saving work. Some testimonies are dramatic, while others reflect a lifetime of God’s preserving grace. Neither is greater than the other. The power is not found in the details of our story but in the Savior who redeemed us. God calls His people to be faithful, leaving the results in His hands. Our responsibility is to obey, to speak of Christ when He opens the door, and to trust Him with the outcome.
As you walk through today, ask the Lord to help you recognize the people He places in your path. What may seem like an interruption could be one of His appointed opportunities to display His grace through your life.
Remember that God’s delays are never wasted when they are directed by His sovereign hand.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for guiding every step of my life according to Your wisdom. Give me eyes to recognize the opportunities You provide to speak of Christ, and grant me the courage to walk faithfully wherever You lead. Amen.
