Holy Fellowship
... True fellowship reflects both the holiness of God and the restoring grace of Christ
1 Corinthians 5:11 NKJV (devotion translation)
But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not even to eat with such a person.

Devotion:
In this passage, the apostle Paul addresses the seriousness of unrepentant sin within the community of believers. His instruction is not about withdrawing from the world, but about guarding the spiritual integrity of the church. Scripture consistently calls God’s people to live in holiness, reflecting His character in both conduct and fellowship. When someone professes faith in Christ yet persists in open, ongoing sin without repentance, the normal patterns of Christian fellowship are to be adjusted. This is not an act of rejection, but a sober expression of love and truth.
God’s holiness is never separated from His grace. He disciplines those He loves and calls His people to help one another walk faithfully. By limiting fellowship in such cases, believers affirm that following Christ involves both confession and transformation. The goal is always restoration, not exclusion. The church is meant to be a place where sin is taken seriously and where repentance is encouraged through wise and godly relationships.
This teaching also invites personal reflection. It reminds us that our lives are to be shaped by the gospel we confess. Fellowship with other believers is a sacred gift, designed to strengthen faith and promote obedience. Therefore, we must guard our own hearts, walking humbly before the Lord and remaining responsive to His correction. When discipline is necessary, it must be carried out with prayerful concern, gentleness, and a desire for renewed fellowship in Christ.
Through such obedience, the church bears witness to both the holiness and mercy of God. Christ calls His people to live in truth, trusting that His ways lead to life and restoration.
Prayer:
Lord, give me a heart that honors Your holiness and loves others enough to walk in truth and grace. Amen.
