Devotion:

In Acts 19, the gospel began transforming the city of Ephesus in powerful ways. The preaching of Christ confronted darkness, exposed sin, and called people to repentance. Some responded with hostility, but many responded with humility before God. True revival always begins when hearts become tender to the Lord and His Word.

One of the first marks of revival in Ephesus was a holy fear of God. The people recognized that God is not to be treated casually. His holiness awakened conviction in their hearts, and they began turning away from sinful practices. A healthy fear of the Lord does not drive us from Him, but draws us into reverence and obedience. When we remember who God is, we become more careful about how we live before Him.

The people also developed a deep reverence for the name of Jesus. His name was magnified among them because they understood that Jesus is not merely a figure to acknowledge outwardly, but the Savior who changes lives inwardly. Those who truly believed confessed their sins openly before God. Revival is never sustained by outward excitement alone. It is marked by sincere repentance and renewed fellowship with the Lord.

Another evidence of revival was that the believers removed ungodly influences from their lives. They willingly destroyed items connected to sorcery and sinful practices because they no longer wanted anything to compete with their devotion to Christ. Genuine repentance always produces practical change. When Christ becomes precious to us, sinful attachments begin to lose their hold.

Finally, the Word of God was given priority. Scripture grew mightily among the people because they received it with obedience and faith. God’s Word still refines, nourishes, corrects, and strengthens every believer who walks in submission to it.

Prayer:

Lord, give me a heart that fears You rightly, honors the name of Jesus, and submits fully to Your Word. Cleanse my life from anything that hinders fellowship with You. Amen.
