God Reveals Himself to All
... God makes Himself known, and calls every heart to respond to His truth
Romans 1:20 NKJV (devotion translation)
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.
Devotion:
Scripture teaches that God has not left Himself without witness in the world (Acts 14:17). From the beginning, He has made His presence known through what He has created. The order, beauty, and complexity of creation testify to His power and divine nature. This is not a saving revelation, but it is a true and sufficient witness that points to the reality of God.
In addition to creation, God has given every person a conscience (Romans 2:14–15). This inward awareness reflects a moral standard beyond ourselves. Even without written law, people recognize right and wrong, which points to a Lawgiver who is righteous and just. In this way, God reveals both His existence and His holiness.
Yet Scripture also makes clear that while creation and conscience reveal God, they do not fully reveal the way of salvation. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the clear message through which people come to know God personally and receive forgiveness of sins. Therefore, the testimony of creation and conscience serves to make humanity accountable and to stir the heart to seek Him.
God, in His sovereignty, is able to reach any person in any place. He is not limited in how He makes Himself known. While we may not understand all the ways He works, we can trust that He is just, merciful, and faithful to reveal Himself according to His perfect will.
This truth calls us to two responses: to trust God’s justice in how He reveals Himself to others, and to be faithful in sharing the gospel where we have opportunity. What God has made known, we are responsible to receive—and to proclaim.
Prayer:
Lord, help me trust Your justice and be faithful to share the truth of Christ with others, Amen.
