Christ Our Sure Foundation

... A life that is truly grounded in Christ must also be continually aligned with Him.

Isaiah 28:16 (NIV)

See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.

Devotion:

This passage reveals that God provides a sure foundation even in the midst of warning and judgment.

Isaiah 28  describes people who had become confident in false securities. Both Israel and Judah had wandered from God, and their confidence rested in arrangements, assumptions, and human strength that could not protect them. Yet in the middle of this sober warning, God gives a promise. He declares that He is laying a tested and precious cornerstone in Zion.

The New Testament identifies this cornerstone as Jesus Christ. He is not merely one part of the believer’s life. He is the foundation upon which the whole life is meant to rest. A cornerstone determined the alignment and stability of a building. In the same way, every part of our lives must be brought into alignment with Christ.

Jesus is a tested stone. He remained faithful through temptation, rejection, suffering, and the cross. He is precious because there is no one like Him. He is also a sure foundation because those who trust in Him are resting upon One who cannot fail.

It is possible to confess Christ as Savior while still keeping areas of life largely untouched by His lordship. Our relationships, work, finances, words, thoughts, and private choices are all meant to be shaped by Him. Scripture does not call us to fit Jesus conveniently into the structure we have already built. It calls us to build upon Him.

God’s grace does not excuse our wandering. It brings us back to the One who forgives, corrects, and restores. Christ receives sinners with mercy, yet He also calls us to leave sin and walk in obedience.

Consider whether the structure of your life is truly being aligned with Christ, or whether something else has quietly become your foundation.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, You are the sure and precious cornerstone. Search my heart and bring every area of my life into obedience to You, that I may rest upon Your grace and walk faithfully in Your truth. Amen.
