What Christ Has Restored
... Christ’s obedience has accomplished what no human effort could ever achieve, restoring all who trust in Him to a right relationship with God.
Romans 5:19 NKJV (devotion translation)
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
Devotion:
Today’s Scripture reveals the great contrast between the fall of humanity and the redeeming work of Christ.
From the beginning, God created mankind to enjoy fellowship with Him. Yet Adam’s disobedience brought sin into the world, and with sin came death. Because Adam stood as the representative of the human race, every person inherits a sinful nature. The evidence of that condition is seen in the choices we all make apart from God. Scripture leaves no room for self-righteousness, for all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory.
But Romans 5 does not leave us with the tragedy of Adam’s failure. It points us to Jesus Christ. Where Adam disobeyed, Jesus obeyed the Father completely. Where Adam brought condemnation, Jesus offers justification. Where sin brought death, God’s grace now offers eternal life to all who place their faith in Christ.
Salvation is not something we earn through good works or personal effort. It is the gracious gift of God, purchased by the sacrifice of His Son. Christ took upon Himself the judgment our sins deserved so that we might be declared righteous before God. This is the heart of the gospel. Our hope rests not in our ability to overcome sin, but in Christ’s finished work on the cross.
As believers, we are called to live each day in gratitude for what Christ has accomplished. His grace not only forgives our past, but also enables us to walk in faithful obedience as those who have been made new.
The cross reminds us that our greatest problem has already been answered by God’s greatest provision in Jesus Christ.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son to redeem what sin had ruined. Help me to rest in Your grace, walk in obedience, and live each day with gratitude for the salvation found in Christ alone. Amen.
