Trusting the God Who Shows Mercy
... The God who is sovereign is also perfectly good, and His mercy invites every willing heart to trust in Christ.

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Devotion:
Today’s Scripture reminds us that God’s heart is revealed most clearly through His mercy.
Romans 9 ↗ speaks of God’s sovereign purposes, reminding us that He is never limited by human expectations or traditions. Throughout Israel’s history, God faithfully carried out His plan to bring the promised Messiah into the world. His choices were rooted in His wisdom and His covenant purposes, not in human merit or achievement.
When we read passages that emphasize God’s sovereignty, we should also remember the broader testimony of Scripture. The same God who rules over all creation also extends His invitation to all who will come to Him through Jesus Christ. His authority never contradicts His goodness, and His justice is always joined with His mercy.
Salvation is not something we earn by our own efforts. It is the gracious gift of God through Jesus Christ. Yet Scripture consistently calls people to believe, repent, and receive the Savior. God’s perfect knowledge and sovereign rule never diminish our responsibility to respond to His gracious invitation.
This truth should not lead us into endless speculation but into deeper worship. There are mysteries that belong to the Lord, yet what He has clearly revealed is sufficient for our faith. We can rest in His perfect character, knowing that He is righteous in all His ways and compassionate toward those who call upon Him.
As you walk with Christ today, let your confidence rest not in your own understanding but in the unchanging character of God. His mercy has been fully displayed through the cross, where justice and grace meet in Jesus Christ.
Rest today in the confidence that the God who is sovereign is also perfectly good, and His mercy invites every willing heart to trust in Christ.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for revealing Your mercy through Jesus Christ. Help me to trust Your wisdom where I cannot fully understand, and to respond each day with faith, humility, and grateful obedience. Amen.
