Devotion:

There are seasons in life when discouragement runs so deep that even the strongest believer feels overwhelmed. David knew such a moment. After years of running from Saul, he found himself far from where he should have been, living among the Philistines and weary from fear and uncertainty. When he finally returned to Ziklag, he discovered that the city had been burned and the families of his men carried away captive. Even the men who once stood beside him turned against him.

Yet Scripture says, “David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.” That sentence reveals the difference between despair and faith. David did not deny his grief. He wept openly. He felt the weight of loss and loneliness. But he did not remain there. He turned to the Lord.

Sometimes the Lord allows us to come to the end of our own strength so we will learn to depend more fully upon His. Human encouragement has limits. Friends may not fully understand our burdens, and even faithful companions cannot always reach the deepest places of sorrow in the heart. But God can. He knows every fear, every disappointment, and every hidden wound.

David sought the Lord before he acted. He inquired of God, listened for direction, and then obeyed. This is the steady path of faith. We are not called to remain frozen in despair, but to seek God’s wisdom and continue walking in obedience, trusting Him one step at a time.

The Lord often strengthens His people not by removing every hardship immediately, but by drawing them nearer to Himself in the midst of it. Through Christ, we have a Savior who understands suffering and who remains faithful in every trial.

Prayer:

Lord, teach me to seek You first in every season of discouragement and loss. Strengthen my heart to trust You faithfully and walk in obedience to Your Word. Amen.
