... What God has forgiven through Christ must no longer be allowed to govern the believer’s life.

This passage reveals the gracious heart of God toward His people, even after their rebellion.

Isaiah spoke to Judah about consequences that were still ahead. Because of their sin and idolatry, judgment would come through Babylon. Yet God looked beyond their discipline to the restoration He had already purposed for them. Their failure was real, but it would not be the final word.

That helps us understand what it means when God says He will not remember our sins. God is omniscient, so He does not lose knowledge of what we have done. Rather, He chooses not to hold forgiven sin against His people. The guilt has been dealt with. For those who belong to Christ, the judgment our sin deserved was placed upon Jesus at the cross.

This truth changes how we should regard the past. We may still remember our failures, and certain circumstances may bring painful memories to mind. But forgiven sin no longer has the authority to define us or condemn us. We do not honor God by continually carrying guilt that Christ has already borne.

There is also a difference between remembering the past and dwelling on it. Scripture does not call us to endlessly rehearse what we should have done differently. When we have sinned, we confess it, receive God’s forgiveness, learn from His correction, and continue walking with Him in obedience.

The same grace shapes how we respond to those who have wronged us. Because Christ has forgiven us, we are called to forgive others. Forgiveness does not declare evil to be acceptable. It releases our claim to personal vengeance and entrusts justice to God.

Do not allow yesterday’s sin, whether yours or another person’s, to carry a weight that God’s grace does not give it.

Father, thank You that through Jesus Christ my sin can be fully forgiven. Teach me to receive Your grace, leave forgiven sin in the past, and walk faithfully with You today. Amen.
