... Faith receives God’s Word with humility and responds with obedience.

This passage reminds us that obedience to God is not always complicated, but it often requires us to surrender our own expectations.

Naaman was a powerful and respected military commander, yet there was one problem he could not solve: his leprosy. When he came seeking healing, he expected the prophet Elisha to respond in a certain way. Instead, Elisha simply instructed him to wash seven times in the Jordan River.

Naaman became angry because God’s instruction did not match his expectation. The command seemed too ordinary. He had imagined something more impressive, but God required something simple: humble obedience.

That is often where the struggle lies for us as well. We may be willing to do something difficult for God while resisting something simple He has clearly said.

• Forgive
• Pray
• Tell the truth
• Wait patiently
• Serve quietly
• Turn away from sin
• Trust His Word

The difficulty is not always understanding what God has said. Sometimes the difficulty is surrendering our desire to do things our own way.

Naaman’s servants wisely encouraged him to obey. When he finally submitted to God’s instruction, he was healed. Yet the greater result was not merely restored skin. Naaman came to recognize the true God. His physical need became the means through which God brought him to a deeper knowledge of Himself.

God is not obligated to work according to our expectations. His wisdom is greater than ours, and His ways are always right. Our responsibility is not to redesign His instructions but to trust Him enough to obey them.

Simple obedience can reveal whether we truly trust the One who has spoken.

Lord, forgive me when pride causes me to resist what You have clearly said. Give me a humble heart that trusts Your wisdom and obeys Your Word, even when Your way differs from mine. Amen.
