The Word Must Remain Central

... The question is not merely whether we believe the Bible is true, but whether we are allowing its truth to shape the way we think, live, and teach others.

John 17:17 (NKJV)

Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

Devotion:

Today’s Scripture reminds us that spiritual formation begins with the truth God has revealed in His Word.

Jesus prayed that His followers would be sanctified by truth. Sanctification is the continuing work of God in believers, shaping our thinking, desires, and conduct so that we increasingly reflect Christ. And Jesus identified the standard of that truth clearly: God’s Word.

That matters because many voices compete for our attention and influence. The material provided emphasizes the importance of biblical teaching, especially in shaping families and the next generation. But Scripture reminds us that our confidence is not ultimately in programs, personalities, traditions, or human wisdom. The church must continually return to what God has spoken.

This responsibility begins personally. Before we can faithfully teach God’s Word to others, we must allow it to govern our own hearts. We are called not merely to defend biblical truth, but to submit to it. The Bible corrects our thinking, exposes sin, renews our minds, and teaches us how to walk in obedience to Christ.

This also shapes the way believers influence others. Children especially need more than moral instruction. They need to know the God who created them, the reality of sin, and the grace offered through Jesus Christ. Christian discipleship is not simply teaching people to behave better. It is pointing them to Christ and teaching them to understand life according to His Word.

When Scripture remains central, we do not have to invent truth or reshape it according to changing opinions. We receive it humbly, live under its authority, and faithfully pass it on.

The question is not merely whether we believe the Bible is true, but whether we are allowing its truth to shape the way we think, live, and teach others.

Prayer:

Lord, give me a humble heart that receives Your Word as truth. Shape my life through Scripture and help me faithfully point others to Jesus Christ. Amen.
