Devotion:

Today’s Scripture reminds us that even in a world marked by sorrow, God remains near to those who seek Him.

The brokenness of this world is impossible to ignore. Injustice, suffering, and evil have touched every generation. When we witness oppression or experience pain personally, it is natural to ask difficult questions. The book of Ecclesiastes acknowledges this reality without pretending that life is easy. Solomon observed the tears of the oppressed and the weight of evil around him, and his heart became discouraged because he was looking only at life "under the sun."

Scripture, however, calls us to lift our eyes beyond what we see. The presence of evil does not mean that God is absent or indifferent. From the beginning, God created a world that was good, but sin entered through human rebellion and brought suffering into creation. Yet God did not abandon His people. In His mercy, He provided the way of salvation through Jesus Christ, who entered our broken world to conquer sin and death.

Although we may not understand why God allows every sorrow to continue for a time, we can trust His character. His patience reflects His mercy, giving people opportunity to repent and believe in Christ. His justice has not been forgotten. A day is coming when every wrong will be judged, every tear will be accounted for, and His righteousness will be fully revealed. Until then, He remains the Comforter of His people, strengthening those who place their hope in Him.

When the weight of this fallen world threatens to overwhelm your heart, remember that God’s presence is greater than the darkness around you, and His promises remain steadfast.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for being our refuge in a world marked by suffering and injustice. Help me to trust Your goodness even when I cannot understand all that You allow. Keep my eyes fixed on Christ, my true hope and faithful Comforter. Amen.
