Ambassadors of Reconciliation
... Those reconciled to God are called to represent Him faithfully in the world
2 Corinthians 5:20 NKJV (devotion translation)
Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.
Devotion:
Reconciliation is the restoration of a broken relationship. Scripture teaches that sin created a separation between humanity and God, disrupting the fellowship for which we were created. Yet God, in His mercy, did not leave that separation unresolved. He initiated reconciliation through Jesus Christ, making a way for sinners to be restored to Himself.
This reconciliation was accomplished at the cross, where Christ bore the penalty of sin so that we might receive His righteousness. God does not count the sins of those who trust in Christ against them. Instead, He grants forgiveness and a new standing before Him. This is not the result of human effort, but the gracious work of God on behalf of those who believe.
But reconciliation is not only something we receive—it is also something we are called to represent. Those who have been reconciled to God are entrusted with a message: that others, too, may be brought back into right relationship with Him. As ambassadors, believers are to reflect the character and truth of Christ in their daily lives. This calling is not occasional, but continual. It shapes how we speak, how we act, and how we relate to others.
To live as an ambassador for Christ is to understand both our identity and our responsibility. We are new creations, no longer defined by our past, but by what God has done for us in Christ. And from that place of grace, we extend His message to the world—not with pride, but with humility and faithfulness.
God’s desire is that all would be reconciled to Him. He works through those who belong to Him to make that message known.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to live faithfully as Your ambassador, reflecting Your grace and truth to others. Amen.
