Devotion:
The presence of suffering in the world often raises difficult questions about God’s goodness and power. Scripture teaches that the brokenness we witness is not the design of God’s original creation but the consequence of humanity’s fall into sin. Because the world is marked by rebellion against God, injustice and sorrow remain realities of life in this present age. Yet the Bible consistently directs our attention beyond the immediate pain to the larger purposes of God’s redemptive plan.
God has not been indifferent to human suffering. In His mercy, He sent His Son into the very world that groans under the weight of sin. Through Christ’s death and resurrection, God has provided a way of rescue — not merely from temporary hardships, but from the ultimate power of sin and death. This reveals the heart of God: He is both just and compassionate, patient in allowing time for repentance, yet certain in His promise to establish perfect righteousness.
The hope of the believer is not that this present world will become heaven through divine intervention at every moment, but that heaven itself will come in God’s appointed time. Scripture assures us that a day is coming when Christ will reign in visible justice, and every wrong will be set right. Until then, Christians are called to live faithfully, reflecting God’s character by showing mercy, pursuing righteousness, and pointing others to the saving grace found in Jesus.
In the tension between present suffering and future glory, we learn to trust God’s wisdom. His purposes are not delayed by weakness, nor is His silence evidence of neglect. Rather, He is working toward a final restoration that will surpass all present trials. Our confidence rests not in the absence of pain today, but in the certainty of His promised redemption.
Prayer:
Lord, strengthen my trust in Your justice and help me to live with hope as I wait for the fullness of Your kingdom. Amen.
