Devotion:

The apostle Paul reminds us that the hardships of this life are real, but they are not ultimate. He does not deny suffering. In fact, he endured imprisonment, persecution, and physical pain. Yet he calls these trials “light affliction” and “but for a moment.” How could he speak this way? Because he measured present trouble against eternal glory.

Paul understood that this world is not our home. Our bodies are frail and temporary, like tents that wear out with time. Our days here are marked by weakness, sorrow, and the steady reminder that all earthly things fade. But for those who belong to Christ, this is not the end of the story. God has prepared something greater.

The same God who raised Jesus from the dead has promised to raise us. What awaits the believer is not merely relief from suffering, but the fullness of life in the presence of the Lord. The glory to come is not symbolic language for improvement; it is a real and eternal reality secured by Christ’s resurrection. Compared to that everlasting inheritance, even a lifetime of hardship is brief.

This eternal perspective reshapes how we endure today. We do not minimize pain, nor do we pretend difficulty does not hurt. But we refuse to lose heart. Each trial is being used by God to prepare us for glory. Every burden borne in faith deepens our longing for what is permanent.

So we press on. We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. The visible is temporary. The unseen is eternal. And Christ Himself is our assurance that the best is yet to come.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to endure present trials with my eyes fixed on the eternal glory You have prepared in Christ; strengthen my heart to trust You fully. Amen.
