A Deeper Walk With God
... God’s deliverance is meant to deepen our walk with Him, not distract us from Him
Jeremiah 33:3 NKJV (devotion translation)
Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.
Devotion:
There are moments in life when difficulty strips away self-reliance and drives us to seek the Lord with sincerity. In those desperate places, God often reminds us that He is near to those who call upon Him in truth. Scripture repeatedly shows that the Lord hears the cries of His people, not because they deserve rescue, but because He is merciful and faithful.
King Jehoshaphat experienced this when he found himself surrounded in battle. In his distress, he cried out to the Lord, and God intervened on his behalf. Yet the greater lesson was not simply that he was delivered, but that the deliverance moved him toward a deeper devotion to God. After the Lord rescued him, Jehoshaphat returned to lead the people back to the worship of the Lord. Mercy became the pathway to renewed obedience.
It is possible to seek God urgently in hardship, receive His help, and then slowly drift back into spiritual complacency. But answered prayer is meant to strengthen our fellowship with Him. The Lord does not simply remove us from trouble; He uses trials to draw our hearts nearer to Himself. His rescue should awaken gratitude, humility, and renewed dependence upon Him.
God’s faithfulness also reminds us that His ways are higher than ours. Sometimes He protects our plans, and other times He overturns them because they do not align with His purposes. Even then, His hand is still good. What He allows or prevents is always governed by wisdom and love toward His children.
Christ Himself is the perfect Shepherd who never abandons His people. Through Him we have continual access to the Father, especially in times of weakness and need. Every answer to prayer should move us not merely to relief, but to greater trust, worship, and surrender.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to seek You sincerely in every season and to respond to Your faithfulness with deeper obedience and trust in Christ. Amen.
