... Faithfulness to Christ requires knowing and holding firmly to the Jesus revealed in Scripture.

This passage reminds us that sincerity alone cannot protect us from spiritual deception.

Paul was deeply concerned for the Corinthian believers because false teachers were presenting a distorted understanding of Jesus. Their message may have sounded spiritual and persuasive, but it was not faithful to the Christ revealed through the apostles. Paul understood that deception often succeeds not by openly rejecting truth, but by subtly changing it.

That warning remains important for every believer. We do not have the freedom to redefine Jesus according to personal preference, religious tradition, or cultural expectations. We must know Him as Scripture reveals Him.

Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. He is God who came in the flesh, lived without sin, died as the atoning sacrifice for our sins, rose bodily from the grave, ascended to heaven, and will come again. Salvation is not found merely in admiring Jesus as a teacher or acknowledging Him as a religious figure. We are saved by grace through faith in the true Christ and His finished work.

This is why knowing Scripture matters. Counterfeit teaching becomes more difficult to recognize when our understanding of the genuine truth is shallow. Satan is a deceiver, and Scripture warns that deception can appear convincing and even religious. Therefore, believers must continually bring every teaching back to God’s Word.

The answer to deception is not fear, but faithfulness. Remain in Scripture. Know the gospel. Fix your attention on Christ. The more clearly we know the Jesus revealed in God’s Word, the better prepared we are to recognize teaching that distorts His identity or His saving work.

Let Scripture, rather than culture or human opinion, determine who Jesus is.

Lord, guard my heart and mind from spiritual deception. Help me know Your Word faithfully and hold firmly to Jesus Christ and the true gospel of Your grace. Amen.
