Devotion:

Today’s Scripture reminds us that God calls His people to protect the unity of His church by remaining faithful to His truth.

As Paul closes his letter to the Romans, he does not end with a discussion of doctrine alone, but with a loving warning. He knew that false teaching and selfish ambition could quietly undermine the fellowship of believers. Division does not begin only with disagreement. It often begins when pride replaces humility and personal desires become more important than the well-being of others.

Scripture consistently reveals that God delights in reconciliation because it reflects His own character. Through Jesus Christ, He has reconciled sinners to Himself and calls His people to pursue peace with one another. Satan, however, seeks to divide what God has joined together. Whether in families, churches, or friendships, division weakens our witness and distracts us from God’s purposes.

This passage also reminds us that we are not called to control or change another person’s heart. The Bible instructs us to warn those who persist in causing division and, when necessary, to distance ourselves from their harmful influence. The work of changing hearts belongs to the Lord. Our responsibility is to remain faithful, to guard our own hearts from pride, and to pursue peace without compromising biblical truth.

Ask the Lord today to examine your own spirit. Where humility, patience, and love are present, unity can flourish. As we submit ourselves to Christ, He enables us to become instruments of His reconciling grace rather than contributors to unnecessary conflict.

May your words and actions today reflect the peace of Christ, who unites His people in truth and love.

Prayer:

Father, guard my heart from pride and selfish ambition. Help me to pursue peace, remain faithful to Your truth, and trust You with the hearts of others. Make me an instrument of Your reconciling grace through Jesus Christ. Amen.
