Walk in the Good Way

... God’s Word remains the trustworthy path when competing voices make the way seem uncertain.

Jeremiah 6:16 NIV (devotion translation)

Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.

Devotion:

Today’s Scripture reminds us that God’s truth does not change when the world around us does.

Jeremiah ministered during a time of serious spiritual decline. God’s people had wandered from His Word, yet the Lord graciously called them to stop, consider their ways, and return to the path He had already revealed. The problem was not that they lacked direction. God had spoken clearly. The question was whether they would listen and obey.

The "ancient paths" were not an invitation to nostalgia. They pointed God’s people back to His established truth. Their safety was not found in following whatever seemed acceptable in their generation, but in walking according to what God had said.

That same principle remains important for believers today. Scripture must shape the way we understand every area of life. We are not called to adjust God’s Word to fit our preferences, fears, loyalties, or the prevailing opinions around us. Instead, we bring our thinking under the authority of Scripture.

This requires humility. Sometimes God’s Word confronts assumptions we have carried for years. Sometimes obedience places us at odds with people we respect. But faithfulness to Christ means that our first concern is pleasing Him.

Jesus perfectly walked in obedience to the Father, and through His death and resurrection He has provided salvation for sinners who could never make themselves righteous. Following God’s way, therefore, is not an attempt to earn His favor. It is the response of those who have received grace and now desire to live under Christ’s lordship.

When you find yourself at a crossroads, do not begin by asking what is popular, convenient, or personally comfortable. Begin with what God has said, and ask Him for the grace to walk faithfully in it.

Prayer:

Lord, bring my thoughts and choices under the authority of Your Word. Give me humility to receive Your truth and grace to walk faithfully with Christ. Amen.
