Wisdom for the Task
... Seek God’s wisdom before relying on your own understanding, and trust that His provision will always be sufficient for the work He has given you.
James 1:5 NKJV (devotion translation)
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
Devotion:
Today’s Scripture reminds us that God faithfully supplies what His people need to accomplish the work He entrusts to them.
Solomon began his reign as a young king with responsibilities far beyond his own strength. Although God had already granted him extraordinary wisdom, Solomon did not attempt to govern Israel alone. He appointed capable leaders throughout the kingdom, recognizing that effective leadership requires humility and a willingness to entrust responsibility to others. His example reminds us that wisdom is not merely possessing knowledge, but applying God’s truth with humility and discernment.
The Lord blessed Solomon with wisdom that matched the magnitude of his calling. As the nation prospered and grew, God provided understanding sufficient for every challenge before him. This reveals something important about God’s character. He does not call His people into service and then leave them to rely on their own abilities. He graciously provides what is necessary for faithful obedience when we depend upon Him.
At the same time, the chapter quietly warns against placing confidence in human strength. Solomon began to accumulate military resources beyond what God had instructed for Israel’s kings. The Lord desired His people to remember that their security rested not in horses or chariots, but in His sovereign care. Even God’s gifts can become distractions if they lead us to trust ourselves more than Him.
The same principle applies to every believer today. Whether our responsibilities seem small or overwhelming, Christ calls us to seek His wisdom daily. He is faithful to supply grace, discernment, and strength for every assignment He places before us. Our confidence rests not in our resources, experience, or abilities, but in the God who equips His servants for His purposes.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for giving wisdom generously to those who seek You. Teach me to depend upon Your strength rather than my own, and help me serve faithfully in every responsibility You entrust to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
