Strength Through One Another
... The strength of the church is not found in self-sufficiency, but in believers humbly serving one another under the care of Christ
Galatians 6:2 NKJV (devotion translation)
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Devotion:
When the armies of Ammon and Syria came against Israel, Joab understood that the battle before him would not be won alone. He divided the forces with his brother Abishai and said that if one became overwhelmed, the other would come to help. In the middle of conflict, they strengthened one another with courage and trusted the outcome to the Lord.
God did not design His people to carry burdens in isolation. Throughout Scripture, believers are called to encourage, strengthen, and pray for one another. Pride often convinces us to remain silent about our struggles, but humility allows the body of Christ to minister grace where it is needed most. The Lord frequently works through faithful brothers and sisters who come alongside us with prayer, wisdom, and encouragement.
There are seasons when spiritual battles, grief, discouragement, or temptation can weigh heavily on the heart. In those moments, isolation can deepen the struggle. The fellowship of believers becomes one of God’s provisions for endurance. A timely word, a faithful prayer, or the quiet presence of another believer can remind us that we are not abandoned in the fight.
At the same time, this passage calls us to notice the burdens others carry. Some people may never ask for help directly, yet they quietly battle fears, sorrow, or weariness. Walking faithfully with Christ includes learning to bear the burdens of others with patience, compassion, and prayer.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to walk faithfully beside others and to receive help with humility when I am weak. Help me to strengthen and encourage those You place in my life. Amen.
